Woodwind
Debora Haig
We are delighted to welcome Debora and Juliette as our Woodwind Tutors.
Debora has worked for Aberdeen city council teaching Woodwind Instruments for over 12 years, and has been employed as a professional oboist in the north east since she was 15 years old.
As well as teaching both piano and the full range of woodwind instruments, Debora performs in musical ensembles, both classical and contemporary, and offers accompaniment services to students undertaking exams. She also writes, records and performs her own songs, and can be seen often performing at the Carmelite hotel or with the function band stone cold sober, where she sings lead female vocals and plays the saxophone.
She has met and learned from many highly skilled and prominent local musicians, and considers herself fortunate to still be able to call on them for advice and support. Through them, and her own aspirations, she considers herself to have a patient and supportive approach to teaching.
More recently, Debora attended a course in repairing and maintaining woodwind instruments, and now undertakes such work under the name of Danestone Woodwind Repair.

Tom Mcgookin Flute Tutor flute specialist
Tom had been an enthusiastic musician since the age of seven. Following in the footsteps of his grandad, he began playing in a marching band before discovering the flute aged 12. After achieving grade 8 in just a few years, he was inspired to continue his studies in music, and took the daunting steps to move from a small town in Northern Ireland to Aberdeen to begin a bachelors degree in Music Education.
